Strong Results Support
AP Program
(August 2008) The College Board recently reported that 49 Westbury Christian School students passed 95 AP exams with a score of 3 or above. The exams were administered in May 2008 with results reported in late July. According to Mr. Mike White, WCS Director of Guidance, “Our scores improve each year. It’s a clear indication that we have excellent teachers, improved resources and competitive students.”
According to the College Board, “AP Exams are rigorous, multiple-component tests in 37 subjects that are administered at high schools each May. High school students can earn college credit, placement, or both for qualifying AP Exam grades. Each AP Exam has a corresponding AP course and provides a standardized measure of what students have learned in the AP classroom.”
Mr. White reported that seniors Jim Chu, Patti Lee, and Emili Lee earned the highest score of 5 in Calculus, and senior Gina Teague also earned a 5 in English Literature and Composition. Thirteen students scored a 4 in 15 exams including Boss Chansangavej in Calculus, Emily Harper in Psychology, Ryan Keenan in Macro Economics and Micro Economics, Patti Lee in Studio Art, Russell Leonard in US Government and Politics, Kim Ngo in Biology, Khanh Nguyen in Micro Economics, Kevin Phungh in English Language and Composition, Delisa Somoye in Macro Economics and Micro Economics, Gina Teague in Psychology, Glory Nwaugbala in World History, Carl You in Statistics and Eric Young in Psychology. Twenty nine students also earned a score of 3 in 76 exams.
In May 2007, more than 1.4 million high school students at over 16,000 schools worldwide took AP Exams. Sixty-six percent of U.S. high schools currently participate in the AP Program, and more than 90 percent of four-year U.S. colleges and universities grant credit or placement for qualifying AP Exam grades.
