            <title>McIngvale Challenges Graduates to Overcome Adversity</title>
            <description>On the night before his scheduled address to the Westbury Christian School graduates, well-known Houston businessman Jim McIngvale suffered a terrible tragedy – his Houston landmark furniture warehouse went up in flames to the tune of several millions of dollars.  As the community rallied their support around McIngvale, it would have been easily understood if he would have not been able to make it. </description>

            <title>WCS Sophomores on Target for College</title>
            <description>Westbury Christian High School sophomores recently took the PLAN (Pre-ACT) assessment test.   According to Mr. Mike White, WCS guidance counselor, the PLAN results show that the entire sophomore class is on target to meet ACT’s College Readiness Benchmarks by graduation.</description>

            <title>Jim McIngvale Will Address WCS Graduates</title>
            <description>Westbury Christian School has announced that Jim McIngvale, well-known Houston business proprietor of Gallery Furniture, will address the WCS graduates on Friday, May 22nd at the WCS gymnasium.  Greg Glenn, WCS Executive Administrator said, “Mr. McIngvale has demonstrated a strong connection to community service which epitomizes the Christian character at Westbury Christian School.”</description>

            <title>WCS Art Students Compete and Showcase their Talent</title>
            <description>Westbury Christian School art students have been hard at work creating art pieces that have been submitted to several recent art competitions. 

In the annual Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) Art District Competition held at The Awty International School and hosted by Second Baptist School, WCS placed third overall.  Mrs. Karen Keese, WCS Art teacher, expressed “We had three more schools competing this year which made the competition tougher, but I’m very pleased with the hard work that our students put into the competition.”   Keese said 63 pieces were entered and WCS brought home two bronze and five silver medals.</description>

            <title>WCS Participates in Academic Meets</title>
            <description>The spring semester has seen a flurry of academic meets.  Westbury Christian School middle and upper school students have been traveling across Texas competing in several academic meets and bringing home top awards.  

At the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) District Meet held at WCS in March, 30 WCS students competed.  Nine high school students, Audris Ponce, Annie Pan, Emily Pan, Preston Meyers, Ingrid Guan, DeAndre Beadle, Jon Scott and Luis Chung qualified to advance to the State Academic Meet held at Concordia Lutheran University in Austin, Texas.  Ingrid Guan placed 2nd in Advanced Math and 1st in Physics.  DeAndre Beadle placed 3rd in Solo Acting, Luis Chung placed 4th in Spanish and Annie Pan placed 4th in Math.</description>

            <title>WCS Announces Middle School Football Program</title>
            <description>Beginning the 2009-2010 school year, seventh and eighth grade students at Westbury Christian School will be able to participate in the newly established middle school football program.  

 “The goal is to develop and shape the lives of young boys through consistently doing the right things, committing to serve others, making choices that please God, establishing good creditability with God’s approval, and pleasing God with the lights on and off them,” explained Charlie Ward, head varsity football coach and middle school football program developer.</description>

            <title>Westbury Christian Boys and Girls Win TAPPS Titles</title>
            <description>MANSFIELD — Westbury Christian double-dipped at the TAPPS state tournament Saturday with the girls and boys basketball teams earning Class 4A titles.

Led by Kevin Perry’s 29 points and Nick Shepherd’s 10, the boys defeated Arlington Grace Prep 73-52.

“It was what we had been working on all season, and we worked hard and prepared, so it is really special to be able to bring home the title,” Westbury Christian coach Russell Carr said.</description>

            <title>Carr and Sutton Take Wildcats to Final Four</title>
            <description>On Friday, February 27th, Westbury Christian School’s boys and girls basketball teams will face San Antonio Christian and Bishop Gorman, respectively, at the TAPPS State Championship Basketball games in Mansfield, Texas. 

Coach Russell Carr, head coach of the WCS Wildcat boys’ team, said, “We’ll be doing very little different than what we have been doing from day one.  We may make some adjustments as we play, but we won’t re-pour the foundation that we’ve laid.”</description>

            <title>WCS Celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr. Day</title>
            <description>Westbury Christian School commemorated Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with a special program organized by the AP Government and Politics class and other high school volunteers.  First grade through 12th grade students attended the program which featured the societal changes that Dr. King helped to bring about by his non-violent leadership of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s.</description>
