WCS Band Program

The WCS band program focuses on the development of the individual student musician in preparation for participation and beyond. Students will learn basic music reading, instrument technique and ensemble skills required for successful participation. The band performs an annual Christmas concert and spring concert as well as occassional chapels.

Middle School Students — 5th-8th grade
High School Students — 9th-12th grade

  • Students have the opportunity to take band as a fine arts elective course, which includes two concerts each school year.
  • Students can play in and tour with the Big Blue football band, the pep band and the drumline, which plays at home basketball games in the McCloy Gym. There are also several opportunities to participate in community outreach and recruiting performances off campus during the school year.
  • Students participate in an on-campus Solo and Ensemble Competition in the spring, with all students receiving a high score of 1 moving on to the Solo and Ensemble Recital at the end of the year.
  • Students regularly attend and earn spots in regional and state band competitions.
  • High school students who meet the requirements are eligible for induction into the Tri M Music Honor Society.

NOTE: Although the focus is on band instead of orchestra, we welcome experienced strings players to join as well.
